Miss Wilmington 2010 pageant

On Sunday Jan 24th, it was my pleasure to attend the Miss Wilmington, America 2010 pageant at Harry's Savoy Grill.  Seven lovely young women competed with a private interview with the judges, an on-stage interview, a talent portion, a swimsuit competition, and an evening gown competition.
The MC for the evening was the beautiful Chelsie Smith (Miss Universe 1995).  I was accompanied by Tetra Shockley (Mrs State Capital, US 2010).  Also in attendance were Chris S (Mr De 2008) and many of the Miss Delaware 2009 and 2010 contestants and Miss Delaware Outstanding Teen contestants.
Congratulations to Kayla Sherwood (Miss Wilmington 2010)!!!!

"Miss America Sendoff" party for Heather Lehman, Miss Delaware, America 2009

On Friday Jan 15th, my husband and I attended a send off party for Heather Lehman (Miss Delaware, America 2009).  Along with wishing her well, we were treated to a fashion show that was a preview of what suits, dresses, gowns she would be wearing at the Miss America pageant...as well as her beautiful singing performance.

We were accompanied by Catherine (Mrs Mid-State, US 2010) and Joe Simon, Chris Saltalamacchio (Mr DE 2008), Andrew Knopf (Mr DE 2009), and Bobbey Biddle.  Good luck in Las Vegas Heather....we are all rooting for you!!!!

"Why Weight?" legislative lunch to support Senate Bill #81 mandating calorie/fat labeling in restaurants

On Thursday Jan 14, 2010 I was asked to attend the luncheon at Legislative Hall in Dover, Delaware to show support for Sentate Bill #81 which will mandate restaurants to provide calorie and fat labeling.  American adults and children continue to have alarming rates of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease...all of which are interrelated.   As a cardiac nurse, I fully support this bill with the belief that by providing customers with nutrition information, people will be able to make healthier choices when dining out which can enable them to live healthier lifestyles....and decrease their risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
I was joined by Senator Sokola (sponsor of bill #81), Senator Bethany Hall-Long (co-sponsor of bill), State representative Mike Ramone, Christina Crews (AHA), and Jonathan Kirsch (Delaware AHA advocacy director).

6abc interview for AHA's "Go Red for Women" campaign

On Jan 13th, I was interviewed as a spokeswoman/volunteer for the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign.  Accompanying me was Maureen Bullock, Mrs Kent County 2009, a heart attack survivor.  We discussed statistics (such as cardiovascular disease being the #1 killer of women), common symptoms, and healthy lifestyle changes that women can make to reduce their risks for heart disease and stroke.
February is national heart month....and the interview will be aired on Saturday Feb 27th on Delaware Connections.
